PORRINESANCTUARY
OF THE MADONNA PORRINE
A country chapel with twin steeples dedicated to Our Lady stands out
on the west of Ospedaletti, in a place known as Porrine. It was built
around the middle of the 16th century upon the will of Tomaso Rossi,
Knight of Rhodes, then enlarged in 1817 on the Greek-cross plan. In
later years, above the existing portico, were built lodgings to put
up pilgrims and the façade was embellished with Baroque decorations.
Under the portico of the church (that became a Sanctuary in 1858) is
still visible a fresco by Carrega. In the interior you will find a valuable
marble statue of Our Lady. From the front yard you can enjoy a charming
panoramic view of Ospedaletti.
